Brief Overview

Mission

It is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America and Troop 2018 to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

BSA Troop 2018

Troop 2018, based in Haymarket, VA, is a new Troop, established in 2018! Our chartering organization is Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.  We are a STEM focused Troop and look forward to many adventures.

Registration

Eligibility to join is open to boys who are 11 through 17 years of age, or have earned the Cub Scouting Arrow of Light award and are at least 10 years old, or have completed the fifth grade and are at least 10 years old.  To join the Troop all we need is a completed Boy Scout Application form and a check for the annual Dues.  We will need a Boy Scout Medical Form prior to participation in any camping trips.

COST – Troop Dues

Each Scout pays annual dues of $100.00.

Dues cover BSA fees, Boy’s Life magazine subscription, and subsidizes the awards he earns.

Items provided on joining the Troop:  Neckerchief, Neckerchief Slide, Boy Scout Handbook, Troop 2018 patch for the uniform.

Items the Scout is required to purchase:  A Boy Scout Uniform and personal camping gear.

Troop Meetings

The Troop meets at least 3 times a month on Monday evenings; normally 7:00-8:30 PM, at Gravely Elementary School.

Weekend Camping and Activities

Troop 2018 plans a weekend camping trip or activity every month. Trips normally leave on Friday afternoon and return on Sunday morning. The troop provides the camping gear (tents, stoves, cooking equipment). The scouts bring their own personal gear such as a sleeping bag and mess kit. Each patrol prepares their own meals.  Campouts and Activities usually require some sort of an expense to someone, i.e. transportation, meals, fees, etc. These expenses are to be paid on an equal basis by the attending Scouts.  Average:  @ $20.00 an event.

Summer Camp

Each year during July or August, Troop 2018 plans to attend a weeklong BSA summer camp. These camping trips offer a wide range of programs and activities that help scouts to earn several merit badges and progress through the scouting ranks.   Cost to attend: @ $385.00.
