November Pack Newsletter

Hi, everyone! Here is the November news for Pack 7:

PACK MEETING
November Pack meeting is Wednesday, November 19 at 6:15pm. The Bear den will be hosting. They need to arrive at 6:00 to help set up, will be responsible for bringing out and putting away the flags, and help clean up after the pack meeting. Our theme this month is fire safety. Rhiannon has some special surprises planned, so make sure you come so you don't miss out on the fun! There will be some special guests attending.

NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS
At our pack meeting, there will be a clipboard passed around asking for volunteers to help with our Pinewood Derby in January. Remember, Pack 7 is run completely by volunteers, so everyone needs to help out to make our pack run efficiently and give all of our boys positive experiences and lasting memories.

There is a saying: "Many hands make quick work."  If everyone pitches in a little bit, the job won't be too big. The committee asks that one adult from each family volunteers to help the pack in some way. It can be as an assistant den leader, a committee member, or helping at a pack event.

So, be ready to sign up to help for the Pinewood Derby. If you are unable to help with the Pinewood Derby, please see your den leader or Rhiannon and find out how you can help our pack be successful.

LOOKING AHEAD
  • December 17 - 6:15pm - Pack Meeting. Each scout needs to bring in a 6 pack of white socks. After a fun "snowball fight,"  the socks will be collected, washed, and donated to the homeless shelter.
  • January 10 - 10am-noon - Speed Clinic for the Pinewood Derby at New Horizons United Methodist Church. This is a time where tools and expertise will be available to help your son design his car for the Pinewood Derby.
  • January 24 - District Polar Outing. More information will be available as we get closer.
  • January 31 - 11am - Pinewood Derby and Pack meeting. Volunteers are needed!

October Pack Newsletter

Hi everyone! Here's the Pack 7 news for October:

POPCORN
The deadline for popcorn sales is fast approaching! Remember, this is the pack's only fundraiser for the year---this is how we get to do all of the fun stuff, so please do your best to get out there and sell. Door-to-door sales are shown to be the most effective, but don't forget to ask friends, family and work associates too!

Orders and money will be due Nov 7 to Steve Walker. Please make arrangements with him to turn in your forms, money, and any leftover Show & Sell popcorn to him by November 7th.

We also have one final weekend of booth sales this weekend. Each of the time slots has room for one more scout to sign up to sell. Please see your email for the links to claim a new time.

GEOLOGY NIGHT
This event is Thurs, Nov 6 at 6:30pm at the Geology Building at Mizzou. Cub Scouts will earn the Geology belt loop & pin; Webelos will earn the Geologist Activity Badge. The event is free, but registration is required to Rhiannon by Thursday, October 30. See document on the Forms page for more information.

STEM EVENT
On the pack calendar, there is a STEM Event listed on Saturday, November 8. This is evidently not an official district scout event, but they are working with Columbia Public Schools to offer scouts the opportunity to attend and do cool things. Still don't have any information on the event. Will pass it along as soon as we get it.

SLOO TRAINING
Parents, this one's for you! For any pack overnighter, we are required to have someone who has gone through SLOO (Scout Leader Outdoor Orientation) Training, which is offered by the district only once or twice a year. Our current SLOO-trained parents are about to graduate out of the pack with their boys in February, so our April campout will not happen unless someone steps up to go to this. It's November 1 from 8am to 5pm. The cost is $25, but if you need assistance with that, the pack can probably offer financial help. Please contact us if you can go to this training.

I've heard the training is fun and pretty easy. There are no tests, and you're not going to be roped into planning the whole pack campout...I promise. We just need someone who has gone through the training to be at the campout. And the great part is that you'll be trained for the rest of your time in scouts---you only have to do it once.

If no one can attend this training from Pack 7, it is very likely that the April pack camping trip will be cancelled.

DECEMBER MEETING
Two requests: (1) Please hang onto any metal frozen juice concentrate lids (metal only)---we'll be using them for a project. Please bring any you collect to the November meeting.

(2) And, please plan to bring a new package of at least six white socks to the December meeting for a donation and game. Doesn't matter what size or brand or if they are mens, womens or kids...we just need each scout to bring a package of at least six socks to the December meeting. Wanted to get this info in your hands now so you can plan ahead.

September Pack Newsletter

In order to keep everyone informed on Cub Scout Pack 7 happenings, there will be a monthly email sent out to everyone. Often, there will be more than one email a month sent out, but monthly will be the minimum. Here's Pack 7 news for you to know!

DEN MEETINGS
Den meetings have been set. Your den leader should have contacted you. If you are one of our families who attended Meet the Pack night but haven't registered yet, no worries. Try out a den meeting! Here are when the different den meetings are:
  • Tigers (grade 1) - 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 6pm at New Haven cafeteria. Myria Key is the den leader.
  • Wolves (grade 2) - 1st Tuesday and 3rd Wednesday at 6:30pm (but this month it's 2nd and 4th) at New Horizons. Stephani Worts is the den leader.
  • Bears (grade 3) - 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 6pm at New Haven cafeteria. Kimberly Kemp is the den leader.
  • Webelos I (Grade 4) - 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 6pm at New Haven cafeteria. Matt Poppa is the den leader.
  • Webelos II (Grade 5) - 2nd and 4th Monday of the month at 6:30pm at New Haven cafeteria. David Kubiak is the den leader.
PACK MEETING
The whole pack meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 6:15-7:30pm at New Horizons United Methodist Church. The boys are recognized individually for achievements in scouts. Information is given to the parents about pack events, and the boys participate in fun activities.

This month our pack meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17 at 6:15pm. The boys need to be in uniform (for new scouts, if you haven't gotten their uniforms yet, don't worry about it). Each month a different den will "host" the pack meeting, which means they get there by 6:00pm to help set up chairs. They also will bring in the flags, and then help put away at the end of the meeting. This month the Webelos II will be hosting the pack meeting.

This month at the pack meeting we will be discussing popcorn sales. There will be time for a parent meeting while the boys are having some fun. Also, the boats for the Raingutter Regatta will be handed out at the meeting.

FAMILY CAMP AND RAINGUTTER REGATTA
The fall family camp out will be October 11-12 at the Pine Ridge Campground just past Ashland a bit. We will set up camp in the afternoon. Please let us know if your family needs a tent. The Raingutter Regatta will begin at 4:00. Dinner Saturday and breakfast Sunday will be provided. This is a really fun event. If you can't stay the night, come to the Raingutter Regatta and have dinner with us. Come for part or all of the campout!

More information can be found on the Forms page. Registration is due by October 3 via the SignUp Genius invitation emailed to you. Please contact us if you did not receive the invitation.

DISTRICT CUB SCOUT RALLY
All Cub Scouts are attend the District Cub Scout Rally on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Bass Pro Shops in Columbia. For the cost of $5 per Scout, $2 per adult, your Cub Scouts will be able to participate in many exciting activities such as Archery, BB guns, Fishing, Water Rockets, STEM and much more from 10am-2pm! Lunch and an event patch is included in the youth registration fee. Lunch is included in the adult registration fee.

More information about the Cub Scout Rally and the sign up for can be found on the Forms page. Registration form and money is due to Rhiannon by October 7.

HALLOWEEN!
There was a request from New Horizons United Methodist Church to ask if families would be interested in participating in the Trunk or Treat on October 31. They need families willing to decorate the trunks of their cars and hand out candy to trick or treaters. The event runs from 5:30-7:00, so even if you trick or treat in your neighborhood, you'll have time to hit the houses after the church event. This is not a pack event, but an opportunity for families to work with the church to reach out to neighborhood families. If you are interested, contact us and we'll put the church in touch with you.

It is so exciting to start another scout year!  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask or speak up. Pack 7 is successful only through the involvement of the families of the scouts, so we want your input. Here's to a great year!
